Converting Cleaning Standards

We are seeking to reduce contamination in our production lines (converting machines). The specific machines use diverse web materials (mainly non-woven based) to produce our products.

Background:

We are seeking to reduce contamination in our production lines (converting machines). The specific machines use diverse web materials (mainly non-woven based) to produce our products. The materials come to our machines in a planetary roll form. Those rolls would be unwound and conveyed through the converting processes (combining, cutting…) to form final products. Within this process, the web materials release different sources of contamination (e.g. dust &/or fibres) causing accumulation of contamination in all places of the machine where it can settle.

With the late changes of materials, we have seen a substantial increase in contamination. As a result, we need to move cleaning times from 8 hour intervals (10 minute cleaning with 2 operators) to less than 6 hour intervals (>15min cleaning with 4 people). In order to maintain operability standards and productivity, we are seeking methods to return to 8 hour cleaning intervals.

Description of the need:

  • Low-cost, effective & sustainable design to maintain the converting machines clean and go back to 8 hour cleaning intervals which can be completed by two people in 10 minutes.

  • New state of the art technology vs. the standard methodologies of cleaning or dust control hood.

  • To maintain the web materials as they are, without reformulating them.

What we are looking for:

  • Partners with capability to create state of the art cleaning techniques on converting machines.

  • Technologies which can be tailored to the level of contamination at the converter.

  • Global solutions which can also be adapted/scaled to different machines & regions.

  • Global solution/technology which can be sourced from any country where Procter & Gamble operates without export limitations or complexity.

  • Proposals related to new business models and approaches.

We are not interested in:

  • Solutions which lead to a substantial increase of energy costs/equipment (e.g. big filters, vacuum blowers, utility needs)

  • Unvalidated/unproven ideas – proposals must have some available validation in other fields.
